Cowboys, oil men, and Muslims? The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – a Muslim advocacy group – announced Monday that the group will be launching an anti-Islamophobia campaign in Houston, Texas tomorrow.

The “Peace and Unity” campaign in the “Lonestar State” is part of CAIR’s effort to “challenge” anti-Islamic sentiment in the country.

There will be various types of billboards plastered throughout the city, however the official launch will unveil the first billboard with the headline “Proud Americans, Proud Texans, Proud Muslims.”

“This pro-active campaign is designed to promote mutual understanding and to highlight the contributions of American Muslims to our society,” said CAIR-Houston Executive Director Mustafaa Carroll.

Carroll noted that Houston has seen a number of anti-Muslim acts in the last several months, including an arson attack on a Houston mosque.
