Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty won a major endorsement in South Carolina Wednesday as Rep. Joe Wilson announced that he would serve as Pawlenty’s state co-chair.

Wilson praised Pawlenty in a statement as “the best man to get our nation back on the right track,” and as the candidate “who has the kind of bold vision for America’s future that we need to defeat Barack Obama.”

The congressman became the focus of national attention when he shouted “you lie!” during a presidential address to Congress in 2009.

“As South Carolinians get to know Governor Pawlenty, as I have, they will see someone with a remarkable record of conservative accomplishments in a politically tough state for Republicans,” Wilson said.

Pawlenty released a statement thanking Wilson for his support. “Congressman Wilson has been a strong conservative voice for the people of South Carolina over the past decade,” Pawlenty said. ”I am honored to receive his support in this campaign to restore America.”
