Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann will officially announce her candidacy for president in Iowa on Monday, Jon Ward of The Huffington Post reports.

Last week, Bachmann made a successful grab for headlines by announcing during CNN’s Republican primary debate in New Hampshire that she intended to officially announce her candidacy.

Bachmann is the founder of the House Tea Party Caucus and is close with Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King. She was born in Waterloo, Iowa.

(Bachmann says she won’t seek re-election to Congress while running for president)

The congresswoman almost certainly intends to channel favorable factors for a win in Iowa, the first contest of the primary season. Mitt Romney announced this month that he would forgo the Ames straw poll, a decision perceived as a slight by some Iowans.
