A man who trashed the lobby of the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City early Sunday morning claims that he cannot remember his actions.

The New York Post reports that aspiring Broadway actor James Whittemore was intoxicated when he kicked through a glass door outside the theater after urinating on it. Whittemore, 22, then grabbed a velvet rope stanchion to break two other doors. Whittemore can be seen on surveillance camera footage committing the crime. A smashed printer was also allegedly a product Whittemore’s drunken break-in.

According to the New York Post, Whittemore’s lawyer said that his client “almost came to tears” when he realized the implications of his drunken escapade. Whittemore was charged with burglary and criminal mischief.

Whittemore was arrested by New York City Police officers. His bail was set at $6,000 bond or $3,500 cash. At the time the article in the New York Post was published, Whittemore had yet to make bail.

The Tonight Show with David Letterman is filmed at the theater.
