Rick Santorum announced Friday that his campaign for president had raised slightly more than $1 million in the second fundraising quarter, and will report $229,000 cash on hand with no debt.

That sum is the combined total of money raised by both the former Pennsylvania senator and his PAC, America’s Foundation. Santorum himself raised $582,348; his PAC brought in $489,866.

The number puts Santorum toward the bottom of fundraising totals for presidential candidates – Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, and Jon Huntsman raised funds in the $4 million range, Mitt Romney raised closer to $20 million.

Nonetheless, his campaign said in a statement that it was an impressive haul given that Santorum did not announce until June 6, just 24 days before the fundraising quarter ended. (Santorum says he has no plans to fix his ‘Google problem’)

Moreover, his finance director, Amanda Kornegay said, “It is worth noting that Senator Santorum didn’t hold his first official fundraiser until June 22, and between that day and June 30, he raised nearly half of the money he raised as an official presidential candidate.”
