Jim DeMint to RedState: ‘I heard there might be some tea party terrorists’ here

Saturday afternoon, all eyes will be on Texas Governor Rick Perry as he addresses the “RedState Gathering” in Charleston, South Carolina. The excitement regarding his imminent presidential announcement is already palpable here. But while there is excitement about Saturday, the event’s kickoff got off to a rather lighthearted start on Friday night.

Senator Jim DeMint was the main attraction at the evening’s first reception, and later, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley hosted a bbq at a place called “Stickeyfingers.” The comments were kept generally light.

“I was afraid to come tonight,” DeMint joked during his remarks. “I heard there might be some tea party terrorists.”

I’ve had a harrowing couple of weeks because these tea party folks held me hostage,” he continued …
