Not all pop sensations worship MTV. Maroon 5’s leading vocalist Adam Levine lashed out at the network and its upcoming Video Music Awards ceremony on Saturday via Twitter for what he perceives as the channel’s lack of focus on music.

“[The] VMA’s [are] one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music,” Levin wrote. “I’m drawing a line in the sand. fuck you VMA’s.”

The 32-year-old, whose band was not nominated for any VMAs, received a quick response from MTV less than a half an hour after he published the emotional tweet.

“Soooo you’ll be tuning in at 9/8C tomorrow right?” MTV tweeted back at Levine of the event, which is set to take place Sunday evening.

Levine, who is currently on tour with embattled singer Gavin DeGraw and Train, made no apology for his statement and will not be attending the gathering.

“i may be a pop singer,” the guitarist tweeted Saturday evening. “but every once in a while the angsty teenager in me just blurts out some raw honesty. it’s a reflex.” The “Sunday Morning” singer also noted, “still waiting to have my ‘jerry macguire mission statement moment of deep regret…’ not happening. phew!”

Maroon 5’s latest single, “Moves Like Jagger,” is currently the most popular song on iTunes.

In 2008, MTV axed the popular show “Total Request Live,” which featured the top music videos of the day. The network is now home to non-musical reality show “Jersey Shore,” which has earned the channel record breaking ratings.
