That didn’t last long.
Former Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell has been disinvited from speaking at a much-hyped Iowa tea party event featuring former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin this weekend, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The Des Moines Register reported Monday that O’Donnell had been added to the roster of speakers, and would speak shortly before Palin. Within hours, that changed.
“We decided not to have her speak,” Charlie Gruschow, a founder of Tea Party for America told the publication. “We felt it was in the best interest of the movement.”
Gruschow also said his group dropped O’Donnell as a speaker after getting “emails from a lot of tea party folks that were very disappointed that she would be speaking.”
O’Donnell, a Republican who lost her U.S. Senate race last year, has been on a media tour promoting a new book.
The Iowa rally has been in the news as observers have speculated Palin could use the event to provide insights for her decision about joining the presidential field.
Gruschow did not return a call Tuesday from The Daily Caller seeking more information, but he told The Des Moines Register that he doesn’t know what Palin will say.
“I honestly don’t know if there will be any announcement made one way or another,” he said Monday. “They keep that very close to the vest. But we know it’s significant and we’re honored to have her accept our invitation to speak.”
