“The Odd Life of Timothy Green” star Jennifer Garner’s company is developing a half-hour comedy series based on the new nonfiction book “The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth,” which follows the lives of six outcasts and a popular girl as they move through high school.

According to Variety, “Easy A” writer Bert Royal is set to pen the program, which is being made at ABC Studios. Susan Arnold and Donna Roth will produce the show. Garner, who played an ex-geek in the 2004 romantic comedy “13 Going on 30,” announced her third pregnancy last month. (MORE: AP Exclusive: Affleck, Garner expecting 3rd child)

“The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth,” which hit bookstores in May, quickly became a bestseller and shows how offbeat, quirky kids grow into awesome, successful adults because of the differences and antics that made them unpopular in youth.

Alexandra Robbins, the woman behind daring sorority expose, “Pledged” and the book about overwhelmed high school students, “The Overachievers,” wrote “The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth” and is a self-proclaimed “dork.”
