Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, apparently having no crime to deter or corruption to investigate, declared Sept. 16 “Hayden Panettiere Day” in honor of the former child star and “Heroes” actress.
In his official proclamation, Gray declared that Panettiere had “proven not only her acting chops, but also her commitment to the cause of full democracy for the people of the District of Columbia.”
Panettiere spoke Friday evening at an event hosted by the D.C. Statehood Fund, an organization advocating that the District be admitted as the 51st U.S. state.
In 2008, she attended the Democratic National Convention in Denver as a guest of the same organization.
