The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday announced a partnership with companies including Best Buy and Microsoft to offer free computer training around the country.

The initiative, called “Connect to Compete,” is aimed at boosting basic computer skills and promoting the adoption of high-speed Internet.

“Imagine what having millions of more Americans digitally empowered can mean for the economy: millions more customers for online businesses, more Americans using cost saving e-government services and more Americans with the digital skills needed to find and land the jobs of today and tomorrow,” FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said.
