Illinois Republican Rep. Joe Walsh has decided to seek re-election in his state’s newly redrawn 8th Congressional District, The Daily Caller has learned.
Widely known as the face of the tea party movement due to his numerous television appearances, Walsh had previously announced that he would run in Illinois’ 14th district against fellow GOP freshman Rep. Randy Hultgren.
While the 14th Congressional District is a safe Republican seat, the 8th has a Democratic registration advantage, and Walsh is expected to have a tough fight on his hands against Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth in next November’s election.
Walsh will announce his decision later this evening at a tea party event in Illinois.
