DES MOINES, Iowa — Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul predicted before a rally of hundreds of energetic Ron Paul fans on Monday that his dad will be victorious in the caucuses here.

The packed ballroom at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown erupted into chants of “Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul” as the presidential candidate and his son rallied supporters the day before the first contest of the 2012 election.

“There’s energy and it’s overflowing and it’s big and it’s coming tomorrow,” Rand Paul said. “We’re going to win in Iowa tomorrow.”

The latest Des Moines Register poll shows Ron Paul, a Texas congressman, trailing just former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

The ballroom was so packed that many supporters and journalists who crammed into the room could barely get a glimpse of the Paul duo.

In a short speech, Rand Paul bragged that “there’s only one candidate” who has never taken an earmark, been accused of flip flopping or taken a congressional junket.

“That candidate is my father,” he said. (RELATED: Full coverage of the Iowa caucuses)

Ron Paul said this year’s campaign has been “remarkable.”

“The excitement has built steadily,” he said.
