Shooting guard Randy Foye demonstrated his ability to perform as the Los Angeles Clippers sealed a 102-84 victory over the Washington Wizards Wednesday night.

On the same day that Chauncey Billups underwent surgery on a torn left Achilles’ tendon that ended his season, Foye contributed 10 points, all of which came in the fourth quarter.

The Clippers took an 8 point lead in the fourth quarter but John Wall answered with a 16 foot jumper, cutting the lead to 75-72 with 10:12 remaining. Foye and the Clipper squad would quickly seal the deal.

Five players scored in double digits, including Blake Griffin who had 23 points and Caron Butler who had 21 of his own.

The Clippers increased their standings and earned the number one ranking in the Pacific Division, leading the Los Angeles Lakers by two games.

“Foye was outstanding, and we’re going to need that from him,” point guard Chris Paul told ESPN.

“Tonight he hit some very timely 3s that gave us some separation. I’ve known him for years, and I used to play against him when he was in Minnesota.” Paul finished the night with 16 points.

The sixteen year veteran, who spent his 2009-10 season with the Wizards before signing with the Clippers in July 2010, demonstrated why the Clippers had the confidence to start him at shooting guard.

“Foye was one of those guys who used to give us fits because he’s such a good player,” said Paul. “I think at times, he’s better than he thinks he is. He can handle the ball, he’s big and strong and athletic, and he can shoot it. So we just need him to keep getting his confidence.”

The Clippers will take on the Portland Trailblazers tonight at the Rose Garden Area. Tip off is set for 10:30pm ET.
