Laker’s legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson is set to launch Aspire, a basic cable television network targeting black audiences with inspirational, positive images of African-Americans.

The channel will have original shows, documentaries, films, comedies and shows about faith. In his goal to create the next BET, Johnson wants to provide opportunities for African-Americans to produce, edit and direct within mainstream Hollywood.

Aspire is expected to be aired on Comcast’s digital basic channel package, which is limited in the number of households it serves.

As part of the new network, Johnson partnered with Gospel Music Channel owner GMC.

Johnson’s channel is set to premiere June 30.
