Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown got a big endorsement Monday in his race against Elizabeth Warren, earning the support of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Christie announced his endorsement Monday, the Boston Globe reported, hours before he was set to headline a fundraiser for the tea party darling, who is running in one of the country’s most highly contested Senate races.

Christie said in a statement that he and Brown “share a commitment to taking on today’s most difficult challenges by reforming government, balancing budgets and making tough choices.”

“He is battling to bring the same kind of fiscal discipline to Washington that I am fighting for in New Jersey. Scott cuts through the baloney and calls the issues like he sees them, and I am proud to endorse his campaign,” he added.

The Cook Political Report rates the Massachusetts race as a “toss-up.” Scott’s opponent, Elizabeth Warren, has raised an exorbitant amount of money. Conservatives in general detest her, turning the race into a likely slug-fest of money and high emotions.

The latest poll on the race, conducted by Western New England University, found Brown leading 49 percent to 41 percent. A Rasmussen Poll last week found Brown up by a 49–44 margin.
