The 22 year-old became Britain’s third chart-topper in the past 18 months with his success in Florida, following on from Lee Westwood and, most recently, Luke Donald.
And the Holywood-born golf star, who won the US Open last year, has said that he has no intention to relinquish his number one ranking.
“I’d like to stay there for a while,” McIlroy said after his Honda Classic success. “As long as I keep playing good golf and have chances to win tournaments, then hopefully I’ll stay up there.”
