Gothamist condones violence against political enemies, women

I know you don’t care about Gothamist, and as a general rule I don’t either, but the following is a good example of the mindset we have to deal with every day. Here’s Gothamist’s John Del Signore with some very well-written opinions about Chris Rock’s camera-grabbing tantrum when Jason Mattera dared to ask him about the Tea Party:

Video: Chris Rock Heroically Smashes Right-Wing Parasite’s Camera

In this creepy video, celebrity parasite Jason Mattera, who just so happens to be pimping a book called Hollywood Hypocrites: The Devastating Truth About Obama’s Biggest Backers, ambushes Chris Rock at a Sundance Film Festival party to ask the comedian why he thinks the Tea Party is racist. In response, Rock grabs the camera and, according to Mattera, “chucks it 50 feet, and then challenges me to a fight. It’s unreal.” It’s also awesome. We don’t condone violence, but we wouldn’t mind watching Rock bitch-slap the guy who used his Republican college newspaper to call advocates for hate crime legislation “militant homosexuals.”

I didn’t think calling someone a homosexual was supposed to be an insult anymore. Is it the “militant” part? Is that why Mattera deserves to be assaulted? If somebody calls you militant, you get to prove him right?

And calling somebody a “parasite” sure sounds like eliminationist rhetoric to me.

Mattera had targeted Rock because last year he made this wholly uncontroversial statement to Esquire: “When I see the Tea Party and all this stuff, it actually feels like racism’s almost over. Because this is the last — this is the act up before the sleep. They’re going crazy. They’re insane. You want to get rid of them — and the next thing you know, they’re f***ing knocked out. And that’s what’s going on in the country right now.” HA, who’s crazy now, person who doesn’t want a right wing gadfly shoving a camera in his face at two in the morning so he can sell more crappy books?!

Ah. Okay, Chris Rock was right to do what he did because Mattera was asking him questions and is now using it to promote his book. I wonder if Del Signore (@johndelsignore) would say the same thing if somebody did this to… oh, let’s say Michael Moore. Or if Andrew Breitbart had ever smashed somebody’s camera for ambushing him with questions he didn’t want to answer right then. Would that be okay too? If not, why not?

Here it is again, in case you missed it:

I don’t know the name of the woman behind the camera. But according to Del Signore, she deserves whatever she gets for daring to disagree with him. Y’know. Because of the left’s respect for women.

Remember: Liberals want conservatives to shut up. Conservatives want liberals to keep talking.

Incidentally, as of 5 minutes ago, The Fox Effect was all the way up to #1,811 at Amazon. Whereas Hollywood Hypocrites is mired at #36. You win again, Media Matters!

P.S. Another Gothamist headline, also from yesterday: Republicans Cool With Violence Against Women, As Long As They’re Gay Or Immigrants. Everybody knows violence against a woman is wrong unless she’s holding a camera and she disagrees with you politically.

P.P.S. Maybe Del Signore has been listening to the latest from Bruce Springsteen.
