Things are about to get bad and ugly for one furniture company.
Legendary actor Clint Eastwood is suing the furniture company, Evofurniture, and the website Immod.com for using his likeness to sell ottomans, chairs and entertainment centers.
In a lawsuit obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Eastwood alleges that the company and website “are continuing to use Mr. Eastwood’s name, identity and persona for the purpose of attracting attention to the infringing products.”
The suit alleges that the website uses many of Eastwood’s famous catchphrases and movie titles to describe some of the furniture, which has branded some of its furniture with names like “Clint” and “Eastwood.”
Some of the descriptions of entertainment centers include references to the actor-director’s films: “When you’re invited into a person’s home, you get to see the good, the bad and the ugly. When visitors come to your home, the Clint 47” Entertainment Center makes your family room alone look like you live in a perfect world of a million dollar baby.”
Another description allegedly reads: “Whether your favorite movies are westerns from the 1970s or dramas from the 2000s, you need a comfortably stylish place to hang out and watch them. If you’re planning on having friends over for ‘Dirty Harry’ marathons, then you definitely need something hip and modern. What you need is the Clint 71” Entertainment Center.”
The suit seeks a permanent injunction against the company and website from using his name or likeness, as well as unspecified damages.
A search on Immod.com for the words “Clint” and “Eastwood” don’t provide any results, so the descriptions in question could have already been removed from the site.
