The New York Yankees’ 12-time All-Star and baseball’s greatest closer, Mariano Rivera, has torn his ACL and meniscus Thursday night before the Yankees’ game in Kansas City likely ending his season, and quite possibly his career.
The injury could be an unfathomable way for one of the most decorated pitchers in history to go out.
Rivera drifted back to the outfield wall, just like he’d done in batting practice so many times before tracking down another fly ball with childlike joy.
Everything changed before anybody could blink.
