1.) Coburn’s Countdown to Calamity — Sen. Tom Coburn tells TheDC’s Nicholas “Hot Mic” Ballasy that America is in real doo-doo if things don’t change quickly:

“Oklahoma Republican Senator Tom Coburn told The Daily Caller in a video interview that the federal government is in the ‘midst of committing murder to our republic’ and predicted that the U.S. faces a financial meltdown in 2-5 years. ‘I wanted people in this book, in ‘The Debt Bomb’ to be able to see what’s coming,’ Coburn said on Capitol Hill, referring to his book. ‘In 2022, less than 10 years from now, unless we make major changes that everybody’s saying they know has to be made but none of the politicians have the courage to make, the entire federal budget will be made of only three things: interest, Medicare and Social Security, nothing else.'”

Say what you will, but Coburn keeps it real. Maybe one day someone will pay attention.

2.) The Johnson campaign takes a major hit — Ron Paul dealt a devastating blow to Gary Johnson — he’s the Libertarian Party nominee for president — Tuesday, reports TheDC’s Alex Pappas.

“A top campaign official for Ron Paul’s presidential campaign says there’s ‘no chance’ that the Texas Republican congressman will endorse Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson for president over presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney. ‘No,’ campaign chairman Jesse Benton said in a response to a question from The Daily Caller about whether Paul would discuss the possibility of an endorsement with Johnson during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday. ‘There’s no chance of that.'”

The news may mean that instead of being utterly defeated by the two major parties in the fall, Johnson will now be utterly and devastatingly defeated, perhaps even embarrassingly so.

3.) President Obama is so modest — Earlier this week it was discovered on the White House website that President Obama had been inserted into almost each and every presidential biography going back over half a century. Upon hearing the news, TheDC’s Jamie Weinstein (ME!) did some digging and found 10 more historical accounts that the president has been inserted into. They include:

“In 1940, the novel ‘Lassie Come Home’ was published. In 1943, the story about a fictional pup was made into a film. In 1954, ‘Lassie’  became a TV series. As a child in Indonesia in the 1960s, Barack Obama ate a dog.”

And also:

“At the beginning of time, God created the heavens and the Earth. In May 2011, Barack Obama ordered the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.”

Read the other 8. Now. But as you imbibe the others, it should be noted that this is not necessarily a partisan issue. It is a cult of personality issue. I would bet my left (and perhaps even my right, though I just can’t be sure) pinky that Newt Gingrich would have done the same thing.

4.) Partisan Puppet  — What happens when the spokesman of a liberal Senate Democrat doesn’t like the headline on TheDC about his boss? They call and complain. What does TheDC do? Change the headline? No. More likely than not, they make a puppet video of the call. Watch and enjoy.

5.) Poll of the Day: Romney leading among women? —  So says the latest NYTimes/CBS poll: Mitt Romney 46%, President Obama 44%.

6.) Tweet of Yesterday — John TabinThere’s no better venue for a presidential interview than The View #slatepitches
