Columbia, MO – Team Smith & Wesson Captain Julie Golob has won the 2012 NRA Bianchi Cup Women’s National Championship. The MidwayUSA/NRA Bianchi Cup match, held at the Green Valley Rifle & Pistol Club, is widely considered one of the most difficult—and prestigious—events in competition shooting, due to the high degree of accuracy required in each of the stages.

This was Julie’s third trip to the Bianchi winner’s circle. Previously she won the Women’s National Championship in 2007 and 2009. Her 2012 score was 1907 with 144x, and she finished 14th overall.

“With so many shooters aiming for that perfect score in NRA Action Pistol—1920 and 192 Xs—the competition level at the Bianchi Cup is intense and fierce,” Julie said. “Even though there are many talented competitors, for me the match is very personal. It’s about shooting the best score I can in one of the most challenging matches a shooter can enter.”

Julie shot the match with her Smith & Wesson Pro Series 1911 pistol chambered in 9mm and equipped with VZ Grips, a Caspian Shroud, and an Aimpoint Micro T-1 optic. Her ammunition was ASYM 9mm with 115-grain bullets, Vihta Vuori Powder and Starline Brass. Other equipment included a Safariland 014 holster, Gemini Jersey, AgilityGuard, Rudy Project Ability eye protection and a Protocall Design Prone Pad & Mover Base. Julie said she was very pleased with her results this year, even though she did not shoot her personal best score at Bianchi. “But with the long training days, all the cameras and the pressure, I was thrilled to place so well and to bring home that beautiful cup!”

Julie also congratulated her Smith & Wesson teammate Doug Koenig on his 14th Bianchi Cup win.

“I’d like to extend a huge thank-you to the NRA staff and all those who made the event possible. It was an incredible week!” Julie said.
