“Give me Liberty, or give me Death!” may be the most famous quote of the American Revolution, yet Patrick Henry, the man who uttered that bold phrase, is often ignored when discussing our nation’s founding fathers.

Those days may be ending. Dr. Thomas Kidd, a history professor at Baylor University, recently joined me for a discussion of his two most recent books: “Patrick Henry: First Among Patriots”, and “God of Liberty: A Religious History of the American Revolution”.

We talked about how the intent of the founders has been distorted when it comes to the First Amendment’s disestablishment clause, the reasons our founders were so concerned about the dangers of centralized power, why certain founding fathers have been largely forgotten, and the shameful legacy of slavery.

Kidd is a prolific, and fascinating, author on our nation’s history. A podcast barely scratches the surface of his works, but that guarantees an interesting discussion.
