A Democratic election group is attempting to ensure that delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa are reminded that the town is run by Democrats.

Ruth’s List Florida, a pro-choice group focused on getting Democratic women elected (supported by the national Emily’s List) has purchased a large billboard on the intersection of I-275 and Armenia hoping to catch the attention of GOP convention attendees, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

“Where the mayor and all city council members are Democrats,” the billboard reads. “Enjoy your visit.”

City elections are nonpartisan, but the paper notes that the Mayor Bob Buckhorn and council members are registered Democrats.

“Electing women makes a difference,” Ruth’s List co-founder, Ellis Robinson said in a statement about the billboard reported by Tampa Bay Online. “Women office holders are also more collaborative in their decision-making – both with colleagues and the public. And Democratic women do this better than anyone.”

Ruth’s List is one of several groups hoping to leave an impression on RNC attendees with massive signage. C-Span and reduce the debt group Public Notice have also reportedly purchased space.

Tampa Bay Online reports Clear Channel Outdoor, one of the area’s two billboard companies, has seen a spike in demand through the region.
