CHARLOTTE, N.C. — First lady Michelle Obama admits that when it comes to her home life, she’s better off than she was four years ago.

“I didn’t think it was possible, but today, I love my husband even more than I did four years ago,” Obama said in her Tuesday night address at the Democratic National Convention.

Along with giving a full-throated defense of her husband’s presidency, the first lady sought to portray Obama as a typical American, even describing how he used to pick her up “for our dates in a car that was so rusted out, I could actually see the pavement going by through a hole in the passenger side door.”

“He was the guy whose proudest possession was a coffee table he’d found in a dumpster, and whose only pair of decent shoes was half a size too small,” Obama recalled.
