First lady face-off: Michelle’s v. Ann’s convention style [SLIDESHOW]

The potential next first ladies of the United States really turned up the glamor during their time at their party’s conventions.

Sure, their respective speeches were important to the political conversation and all that boring stuff, but those with a more sartorial sense couldn’t help but notice the beautiful dresses each woman chose.

Ann Romney stuck with traditional, A-line silhouettes and bold pops of color the week of the Republican National Convention. She chose sophisticated designs from Oscar de la Renta, who dressed first lady Nancy Reagan while she was in the White House.

During the Democratic National Convention, Michelle Obama went with more modern cuts and unique prints from relatively unknown designers Tracy Reese and Laura Smalls.
