President Barack Obama says he’s not sure whether rap sensation Nicki Minaj actually endorsed Mitt Romney in a song released last week.
The song, which was included on Lil Wayne’s “Dedication 4 (Mixtape)”, features Minaj announcing that she is a “Republican voting for Mitt Romney.” Moreover, Minaj says, she is tired of “you lazy bitches” for “fucking up the economy.”
But Obama, who says he has “a nice little hip hop collection” on his iPod, notes that Minaj’s lyrics should not be taken at face value. In an interview with Power 95.3’s “The Obie & Lil’ Shawn Show” in Orlando, Fla. on Monday morning, Obama chalked the lines up as nothing more than Minaj playing a character, which she is known to do in her songs.
“I’m not sure that’s actually what happened,” Obama said. “I think she had a song on there — a little rap that said that. But he likes to play different characters, so I don’t know what’s going on there.”
