And now we’re back to Salman Rushdie again

The following development is sure to crank up the left’s cognitive dissonance to 11. Reuters:

An Iranian religious foundation has increased its reward for the killing of British author Salman Rushdie, in response to a U.S.-made film that mocks the Prophet Mohammad, sparking protests across the Muslim world.

Rushdie, an Indian-born British novelist who has nothing to do with the film, was condemned to death in 1989 by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iran’s late leader, over his novel “The Satanic Verses,” saying its depiction of the Prophet Mohammad was blasphemous.

Khomeini’s fatwa – religious edict – was condemned in the West as incitement to murder and an assault on freedom of speech, but a wealthy Iranian religious organization has offered a large reward to anyone carrying it out and decided to increase the bounty amid the furor over the online film.

“I am adding another $500,000 to the reward for killing Salman Rushdie, and anyone who carries out this sentence will receive the whole amount immediately,” said Hassan Sanei, the foundation’s head, in a statement carried by the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA).

The reward offered by the state-linked foundation now stands at $3.3 million, ISNA reported.

I’m not sure why Reuters thought it was worth noting that Rushdie has nothing to do with the film. Why should that matter? The film is just a flimsy excuse for the rioting and murder in the first place. When more people are murdered by Muslim terrorists even though Obama was inaugurated, what’s to stop those terrorists from blaming Rushdie? Obama has already shown them he’s more than willing to capitulate to their threats. He’s already shown them he’ll blame private citizens for his own failures as president. Why should Rushdie be immune? Because his blasphemy has a thin veneer of literary merit? Because he’s a good little liberal? Because it was a long time ago? None of that matters to Islamic extremists, so why should it matter to anybody else? Now that we’re doing their bidding, that is.

It’s going to be fun to watch everybody who’s been condemning the “Innocence of Muslims” guy do a complete 180. Let’s hear it, geniuses: If that guy is an accessory to murder, why isn’t Salman Rushdie? Why aren’t you broadcasting Rushdie’s home address? Why aren’t you camped outside his house? Why aren’t you petitioning to have his work banned?

Because that’s not cool. Because you’re pathetic, status-seeking hypocrites. Because your only value is keeping your place within the pack.

Because you suck.

P.S. Iran to target makers of anti-Islamic film. Finally, something Iran and the U.S. can agree on.

P.P.S. This is because of that YouTube video too, right?

P.P.P.S. No wonder Rushdie has eluded his Muslim tormentors for so long. He’s been hiding all the way up his own ass.
