The nation’s 26th president finally came out on top Wednesday with his first ever president’s race win.

The mascot race occurs during the 4th inning of every Washington Nationals home game, starting with the first game in July 2006.

According to protest website Let Teddy Win, Roosevelt has lost 526 consecutive times. As Nationals fans have been celebrating the amazing season this year, the plight of the giant foam-headed president has received more national attention.

On ESPN’s “E:60” in September, John McCain said “I am outraged” about Roosevelt’s consistent losses. White House spokesman Jay Carney weighed in after, saying “I’m comfortable saying that my boss agrees with Sen. McCain.”

So with the Nats on the road to victory, there is no more fitting way for the last game of the regular season to end with a win against the Philadelphia Phillies and a gold medal for TR.
