CNN’s Jim Acosta reported on Twitter Tuesday afternoon that Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s campaign expects their candidate to use time during Tuesday night’s presidential debate to address Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s acceptance of responsibility for the failures surrounding the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“Romney camp officials tell CNN GOP nom, if asked, will be commenting on Sec Clinton’s attempt to accept blame for Benghazi,” Acosta tweeted at 2:53 p.m. EST.

The Obama campaign is hoping to get past any discussion of weakness regarding the U.S. handling of Libya and Romney may be able to turn a related exchange during tonight’s town-hall format debate into the media’s central focus in the days ahead.
