In a speech at Georgetown University on Monday, U2 lead singer Bono called President Barack Obama an “extraordinary man,” and congratulated young voters for “turning out in record numbers” to support him.

Bono’s remarks were focused on the power of “social movements.” The event featured House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy and Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan.

“Congratulations are in order — not just for turning out in record [numbers] and forgetting politics for a minute, but for electing an extraordinary man as president,” Bono told the audience.

The event was sponsored by the Global Social Enterprise Initiative at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, as well as by Bank of America.
