For the past decade, Jimmy Kimmel has signed off his late-night show by saying, “Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time.”
The long-running joke is that the actor has been “bumped” from the show a total of 1,205 times. But Thursday night, he got his revenge by kidnapping Kimmel, taking over his show and changing the name to “Jimmy Kimmel Sucks.”
Kimmel sat at the back of the stage, duct taped to a rolling chair and gagged with his own tie as Damon opened the show with his monologue.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long, long time,” Damon said. “This is like when I lost my virginity, except this is going to last way longer than one second.”
Andy Garcia, Sheryl Crow, Robin Williams, Nicole Kidman, Ben Affleck, Gary Oldman, Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon, Demi Moore and even Kimmel’s own ex-girlfriend Sarah Silverman all made appearances on the show and ripped on Kimmel the entire time. Sally Field, Emily Blunt, Jon Krasinski, Don Cheadle, Oprah all sent Damon video messages.
At the end of the show, Damon promised to untie Kimmel but signed off by saying, “Wait, I’m sorry. We’re out of time.”
