The U.S. Capitol Police closed down Stanton Park in Northeast Washington, D.C. Wednesday, and called in additional law enforcement officials, according to an eyewitness on the scene.

Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department tweeted that Capitol Police has reported a suspicious package and has closed streets around the park, which is about three blocks away from the Supreme Court building.

“They’ve got squad cars and dog units. They taped off the park. They’re not letting anyone through, period,” an eyewitness standing on the corner of Maryland and 4th Streets told The Daily Caller. “There are fire trucks coming.”

“At first they weren’t letting people go into the park but they were still letting traffic through. Now they’re re-routing traffic,” the source said.
