Reese “Do you know my name?” Witherspoon apologized for the behavior that got her thrown in the slammer early last Friday in Atlanta.

People reports that Witherspoon released a statement through her publicist early Monday.

“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,” she said.

The statement continues, “It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

At least Witherspoon admitted that she was being a dumbass, rather than denying it like many celebrities are wont to do in this situation.

After her husband was arrested for driving under the influence early Friday, Witherspoon was reportedly agitated and yelled at police, “Do you know my name?” which promptly resulted in her arrest.

Both Witherspoon and her husband attended a screening of her latest movie, “Mud,” in New York City Sunday night. Let’s hope that they weren’t driving.
