Former congressman and many-time presidential candidate Ron Paul endorsed former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford in his bid for congress on Thursday.

“Mark Sanford has always been a strong ally of the Liberty Movement. Help him get to Congress. Donate today!” Paul says in a fundraising plea for the former governor.

Sanford is running for congress in South Carolina’s First Congressional District against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch. His campaign has struggled over the past two weeks, after it emerged that his ex-wife had filed trespassing charges against him. A Public Policy Polling poll released this week found Sanford trailing Colbert Busch by nine points. Earlier on Thursday, the Cook Political report changed it’s rating of the race to “Lean Democratic.”

The election is on May 7.
