The setting: Bottom of the 9th, two outs, one man on base, down in the count…WALK-OFF HOME RUN! A’s WIN! A’s WIN!

Sorry. Typo. Forgot to insert a “1” in there. Change that to 19th inning.

That’s right, last night’s Athletics-Angels game traveled into the 19th inning before A’s outfielder Brandon Moss connected on a 361-foot home run to mercifully end the affair.

The game lasted a leisurely six hours and 32 minutes. With beer sales customarily stopped in the seventh inning, that equates to somewhere north of three-and-a-half hours and 12 innings of $8 water and crackerjacks.

Sucks to be you if you’re an A’s or Angels fan on the East Coast. The game ended at 4:41 a.m. Yikes.

Also sucks to be you if you if you were an outfielder in the game. Three left due to leg injuries, including two hamstring strains. The starting outfield for the Angels went a combined 1-for-20 while the A’s starting outfield went 2-for-17 at the plate. That’s a total of 3-for-37 (.081 batting average for those counting).

The A’s actually used their original starting pitcher, Brett Anderson, for over five innings during the extra innings. He was originally scratched from getting the start as a precaution for his bum ankle, but ended up being called on in extras, pitched 5.1 innings, threw 79 pitches, and re-injured his ankle.

Fans still around at the end of the game were quoted as not saying anything because they’d been asleep for two-and-a-half hours.
