Baseball may not be a “contact sport” but that doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous.

Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Desmond Jennings during the second inning of last night’s Blue Jays-Rays game.

The liner bounced off the left side of Happ’s head and landed in foul territory.

Play came to a semi-halt as players rushed to Happ’s aid while Jennings ended up at third base, noticeably shaken up by the incident.

Happ was taken off of the field on a stretcher, with his neck immobilized, though he was reportedly alert throughout.

The lefty was taken to Bayfront Medical Center to undergo tests and has been listed as alert and in stable condition.

Pitchers are left incredibly vulnerable after making a pitch, only 60.5 feet away from batters swinging as hard as they can. Pitchers are often in a defenseless position during their follow-through.

A very scary moment, but fortunately Happ appears to be in good health.
