Richard Swanson was dribbling his soccer ball on his long journey to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup when his quest ended tragically.

Swanson left his hometown of Seattle on May 1st and vowed to kick a soccer ball all the way to Brazil to promote the One World Futbol Project that gives soccer balls to people in underdeveloped countries.

He was struck and killed on the side of U.S. Highway 101 in Lincoln City, Oregon Tuesday by a pickup truck, sadly ending his journey.

The 10,000-mile adventure lasted only two weeks in what would have spanned over a year and taken him through 11 countries.

According to an AP report, Swanson largely relied on sleeping at the homes of strangers during his trek.

The driver of the vehicle has not been charged in the case.
