In light of revelations about the IRS’ pattern of discrimination against conservatives, a Catholic sociology professor now believes her conservative politics played a role in the government’s bizarre decision to audit her.

Dr. Anne Hendershott, a sociology professor at King’s College and prominent Catholic writer, was summoned to meet with an IRS agent in 2010, according to an interview she gave to The Blaze.

“The IRS calls my house and says… ‘I just wanted to let you know that we’re going to be auditing your business’ and I said ‘My businesses?'” she recalled.

The request was perplexing to Hendershott, since she does not run a business. But for some reason, the IRS considered the limited funds she made as a writer and contributor to Catholic news outlets and traditional newspapers worthy of study.

The IRS pressed Hendershott for records of her financial transactions and asked for background information on the groups that paid her for her writing contributions. Her writing at the time was very critical of President Obama’s policies.

“It was clear they didn’t like me criticizing the people who helped pass Obamacare,” she said. “The IRS is very frightening.”

Fearing further reprisals from the IRS, Hendershott ceased writing op-eds for The Catholic Advocate.

“I haven’t written for them since the audit, because I was so scared,” she said.

Hendershott kept quiet about her ordeal, but recently decided to speak out — after it became clear that the IRS had made a habit of targeting conservatives.

The scandal has led to the resignation of acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller. President Obama has denied having any prior knowledge.
