According to newly released data from the Social Security Administration, the number of people receiving federal disability benefits hit an all time high in May.

A whopping 10,978,040 U.S. citizens collected federal disability checks in the month of May, as opposed to 10,962,532 in April.

This was the 196th straight month in which the number of Americans receiving payments increased. The last time the number actually decreased was in January 1997.

If all the people living on disability in this country lived in one state, it would be the eighth-largest state in the United States with a population bigger than Georgia, Michigan and North Carolina.
