Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell would handily defeat any of the top three Democrats considering running against him in 2014, according to a poll released Tuesday.
McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, is a top target of national Democrats. Yet no viable candidate has entered the race to challenge him yet.
The Republican lawmaker would defeat Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes 47 percent to 40 percent, according the Wenzel Strategies poll.
McConnell would beat former Miss America Heather French Henry 46 percent to 40 percent, and he tops attorney Tom FitzGerald 47 percent to 30 percent.
The results differ from a much-publicized Public Policy Poll last week indicating that McConnell and Grimes are tied in a head-to-head match up.
