Detectives injured in ambush shooting outside police station

Two detectives were hospitalized Tuesday morning after an ambush shooting outside a police station in the Mid-City area that prompted a 25-block wide search for the gunman, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The detectives were returning to the Wilshire Police Station near Venice Boulevard and La Brea Avenue (map) when a gunman opened fire. Aerial video showed the detectives’ white sedan with bullet holes outside the Wilshire station, where LAPD officials said the detectives were ambushed as they entered the station driveway.
