The search for 6-year-old Ahlittia North came to a tragic end Tuesday morning when the little girl’s body was found dismembered in a trash bin in Harvey, La. not far from her family’s apartment.

Ahlittia went missing some time between late Friday night and early Saturday morning. Deputies of The Times-Picayune told Fox8 that the little girl’s brown and plaid comforter, along with her toothbrush and toothpaste had also been taken.

Lisa North, Ahlittia’s mother, was contacted around 1 a.m. after the body was found.

Investigators had searched dumpsters and trashcans in the area prior to the discovery of her body but prior to Tuesday, nothing stood as evidence to Ahlittia’s whereabouts.

Deputies suspect Matthew Flugence who had previously babysat for the family. The 20-year-old is a person of interest and is reported to be a suspect in a sexual battery case involving an 11-year-old girl.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Col. John Fortunato has declined a request to comment on the case until the news conference scheduled for 3 p.m.
