The University of Virginia accidentally printed Social Security numbers on brochures sent to 18,700 of its students, a spokesman said.

The numbers were not labeled as such, but Andrew Eliott, an editor at the school newspaper, said “it’s definitely easily visible if you know what you’re looking for.”

The school had provided the numbers to Aetna Health Care, which sent the brochures directly to students’ homes.

University spokesman McGregor McCance said UVA is currently notifying students affected by the error, and will provide free credit monitoring for affected students.
