In recent years, Monica Lewinsky has made a valiant effort to stay out of the public eye — and who could blame her? She’s not exactly known for the most flattering of deeds.

As the nation’s most scandalous former White House intern turns 40 this week, she is drawn back out into the public eye.

When Lewinsky entered the White House as an unpaid intern in July 1995, she quickly rose up the ranks to gain a paid position in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs by December 1995.

As she gained power, the young staffer also gained the attention of President Clinton. The two allegedly had nine sexual encounters between November 1995 and March 1997. During their affair, Clinton was married to Hillary Clinton, and Monica was 27 years Clinton’s junior.

After the scandal broke, Clinton infamously said, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman,” but further information proved otherwise.

Maybe Clinton was just confused by the “Blurred Lines.”

So, happy birthday, Monica! Enjoy this video of Bill Clinton explaining his confusion regarding your relationship.
