Phil Mickelson, 2013 British Open Champion, shot an 8-under-par 63 in the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship today at TPC Boston, after dropping a shot on his last hole of the day, USA Today reports.

Mickelson, who is playing along side of both Tiger Woods and Adam Scott for the first time in five years, is currently on top of the leader board.

Mickelson took off right out of the gate, shooting a 28 on the back nine. He was in the hunt for the course record, 61, but could not keep all of the magic going. Unfortunately, he would just have to settle for his meager 63.

The pairing of Woods, Scott and Mickelson make up the top three golfers in the 2013 FedEx Cup standings through The Barclays (won by Scott). Tiger would finish the day at 3-under-par (68) and Adam Scott shot a 73, AP reports.

Hunter Mahan, Kevin Stradler and Bob Estes are all currently tied for 2nd, shooting -6 on the day.
