President George W. Bush famously quit playing golf during his first term in office due to the Iraq War, however the former president does not begrudge President Obama his prolific tee-times.

In fact, just the opposite.

“You know I see our president criticized for playing golf. I don’t. I think he ought to play golf,” Bush said in an interview with the Golf Channel’s “In Play with Jimmy Roberts,” set to air Tuesday night.

According to Bush, golf offers the president a way out of the “bubble.”

“I know what it’s like to be in the bubble. And I know the pressures of the job. And to be able to get outside and play golf with some of your pals is important for the president,” he said. “It does give you an outlet.”

President Obama has taken heat for his numerous golf outings. Last summer Obama played his 100th round of golf as president.

“I think it is [a good release] and I think its good for the president to be out playing golf,” Bush said.
