Sorry to break it to you, gentlemen, but we have some bad news about bacon. Eating the delicious sandwich accessory has been linked to lower fertility in men, the Daily Mail reports.

Research from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Boston found that men who eat just half a serving of processed meat — like bacon or sausage — per day had 5.5 percent of “normal” shaped sperm cells, while men who ate boring meats like white fish had 7.2 percent. The study tested 156 men who are undergoing IVF treatments with their partners.

Head researcher of the study Dr. Myriam Afeiche said of the findings, “We found the effect of processed meat intake lowered quality and fish raised quality.”

This is just another study that puts the tasty breakfast treat in a bad light. Last year, Cambridge University theorized that cases of diabetes, bowel cancer and heart disease in men could drop by 10 percent if men stopped eating processed meat.

But, hey, if you don’t want to give up your BLTs, there are millions of orphaned children all over the world who need loving homes.
