While congratulating Newark Mayor Cory Booker for his Senate win Thursday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took the opportunity to poke fun at Booker’s beloved New York Giants.

“I’m happy for the mayor today with his victory last night,” he told the crowd at a groundbreaking event in Newark where he appeared with Booker. “It was the first win the Giants have gotten all year.”

“Little did Tom Coughlin know he was gonna have to depend on a washed-up tight end from Stanford to get his first win of the year,” he said, referring to Booker’s football-playing past, “But desperate times call for desperate measures, don’t they, Cory?”

The Giants are a disappointing 0-6 this year, after a loss last Thursday to the Chicago Bears. They’ll have an opportunity to get a win this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, who are only 1-4.

Christie himself is Dallas Cowboys fan, the New York Daily News reports.
