Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers was offered the job as the head of the Bank of Israel, according to a report.

Citing Israel’s Channel 2, The Times of Israel reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered Summers the post, which he rejected.

As director of the president’s National Economic Council from 2009 to the end of 2010, the former president of Harvard University was President Obama’s top economic adviser at the beginning of his administration. Over the summer, Summers was considered a leading contender to be nominated by President Obama to replace Ben Bernanke as head of the Federal Reserve, but ultimately withdrew his name from consideration last month amid political opposition from both Democrats and Republicans.
